2011 Spring Run Off March 20, 2011, Kamloops
Masters runners continued to impress in the third race of the 2011 series, filling three of the top six positions overall, and winning the women's division. Nathan Champness of Vernon (M20-29) ran a PB 34:41 for the overall victory, and Cindy Rhodes (F50-54) celebrated her 54th birthday by dominating the women's field by nearly three minutes over local runners Leni Meade(F35-39) and Tiffany Hornbeck (F35-39) to take the victory in 40:44.
Masters Brian Rostek (M40-44) and Rory Switzer (M50-54) took second and third in 34:45 and 36:20, and local runner Randy Nelson celebrated his entry to the M55-59 division by running his first IRA event in several years, finishing sixth overall in 38:52. These three dominated the age-graded results, with Switzer, last year's winner of the Greenaway Cup taking the win in 32:02 with Nelson 32:54 and Rostek 33:32. In the scoring for the Muckle-Gader Cup, three-time winner Rhodes continues to dominate, taking top position in 33:51, besting Laurelee Welder (F55-59), 35:49, and Diane Leonard (F65-69) 37:20.
Race attendance was slightly down from last year, which was surprising considering the good conditions, the no extra cost on-line entry system, and the Timex watches awarded as prizes. Spring might be late, but cool and overcast weather is perfect for running your fastest times. Thanks to Race Director Karen King and the Kamloops Ridge Runners.
The next race of the series is the Oliver Wine Capital 10K on April 10. This race features a new race director, so let's sign up online and get out there and support this race. See you there.
